Building Health

Building Health

We have a major interest in the influence that the built (and natural) environment has on human behavior. We brought together the National Heart Forum and the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE) to explore their mutual interest in influencing policy to support the building of environments that support healthy active choices.  We commissioned a range of articles from leading academics and thinkers in the field, and used these to develop an evidence-based consensus on proposed changes to public policy.  This practical approach complemented the guidance that was published by NICE on the same topic. Many of the recommendations in the Building Health report have become public policy, and it seems that the report has helped to increase the profile of the topic in the public health, transport and environment fields.
